Management Plan for Intellectual Property
Coretronic develops annual product and technology development roadmaps aligned with its business objectives. Patent strategies are executed in both qualitative and quantitative dimensions, with dynamic adjustments made to the targeted countries, number of applications, and types of patents based on product categories and technology levels. The Company executes varying degrees of patent portfolio deployment, reviews pending patent technologies and claims, and proposes complementary technical designs and innovations. Patent applications are submitted in a timely manner in accordance with the specific patent systems and priority claims of different countries, filling gaps in the Company’s overall patent layout.
For key products or technologies where the Company holds an insufficient number of patents, R&D personnel are initially encouraged to actively apply for patents across various technological domains (e.g., optics, mechanics, heat dissipation, materials, software, electronic control, etc.) and different product components or modules. This approach helps establish comprehensive protection. Once a sufficient patent volume is achieved, the focus shifts to enhancing patent quality. Furthermore, to ensure that the technologies used in products are patent-protected, patent engineers participate in product development processes to identify valuable technologies and file corresponding patent applications. For critical technologies and components, the Intellectual Property Department creates patent maps to help R&D units identify unpatented areas and inspire the development of complementary technologies to close patent gaps.
Patent Protection Measures
Dedicated Unit: In accordance with the "Patent and Technology Development Incentive Regulations", the Intellectual Property Department is responsible for managing patent applications and maintenance, and annually evaluates whether granted patents should be maintained or disposed of.
Incentive System: Established a "Patent Heroes Leaderboard" to announce the number of patent proposals and approved patents, along with the proposers and patent details of each business group, on the Company's internal website each month. The incentives include proposal rewards, patent grant rewards, patent application rewards, trade secret application rewards, competition rewards, encouragement, and special significant benefits rewards. In 2025, more than NT$2.4 million in patent bonuses were awarded.
Education and Training: In 2025, the Company organized courses including “Software Patent Application Practice: How to Prepare Appropriate Patent Application Evaluation Forms”, “2025 Fundamental Patent Course”, “Patent Related Knowledge Training”, “Patent Drafting Experience Sharing”, and “Patent Proposal LEVEL UP”. Employees seeking to enhance the value of their patent proposals were invited to participate, with a total of 128 participants.
Acquisition/Disposal of Intellectual Property
The Company has established the "Operating Instructions for the Acquisition or Disposal of Intangible Assets and Licensing" to regulate the principles for the acquisition and disposal of intangible assets, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, etc., and specify the procedures and handling methods for acquiring intangible assets from third parties or disposing of the Company's intangible assets to third parties.
Technical Trade Secret Management
The Company has established the "Technical Trade Secret Document Management Regulations" to govern the levels, usage, and management methods of technical trade secrets.
Operation
The Company submits a report about related intellectual property events to the Board of Directors regularly every year. The latest report date is July 28, 2025.
To improve the effective management of the Company's intellectual property rights and automation and digital transformation as well as knowledge sharing, the Company has actively promoted related optimizations since 2008. The following shows the implementations in recent years:
In 2013, the development of the electronic signature sign-off process started, including the different activities of the patent life cycle, such as the evaluation of patent applications, internal review, rejection evaluation, evaluation of patent certificate issuance, annual fee evaluation, and submittal of bonus candidates.
In March 2016, the Trademark Management Platform started operation to manage the trademarks of the Company and the subsidiaries of the group.
In 2019, the internal patent retrieval system platform was introduced. This allows the R&D staff, inventors, department heads, and IP rights staff to retrieve the information about the patent technologies of the group immediately via the intranet and control the status of patents in each country.
In 2020, the electronic processes and internal patent retrieval system platform have been optimized further. While the business unit confirms that a patent will be granted, the system automatically issues an email asking if it is applied to some product so that it can apply for the patent application bonus. On the internal patent retrieval system platform, the One-click Download is also available for the user or business unit to down patent documents according to their needs.
In 2021 we optimized the management process of IP right projects and completed the digitization of the assignment, management, and standard operating procedures (SOP) of IP right projects to facilitate effective project traceability and management. We also cooperated with the related units to inventory the patents of the Company’s projection technology in order to understand our patent value.
In 2022, the patent management system was optimized, with completion of all patent specifications and the implementation of automated system functionality. This reduced manual work and improved information accuracy, enabling effective tracking and management of cases. In collaboration with relevant departments, a comprehensive inventory of the company's projection technology patents was conducted to understand the overall patent value. Furthermore, revisions to the "Patent and Technology Development Incentive Measures" in Taiwan and mainland China have been completed. The existing electronic approval system for patent application proposals was consolidated and improved for both regions.
In 2023, the patent bonus electronic approval system will be enhanced in accordance with the "Patent and Technology Development Incentive Measures."
In 2024, the approved patent evaluation platform will be completed and launched. This platform will analyze patent value in a quantitative manner and display the evaluation scores of patent technologies through charts. It allow researchers to explore the company's high-quality patents, grasp the essence of the technology, and use this information as a reference for future patent strategy and applications.
In 2025, complete the optimization and launch of the annual fee assessment electronic approval system. By linking the "Internal Patent Search System Platform" and the "Approved Patent Evaluation Platform", provide patent value information to business units from three aspects: market, legal, and technical, as a reference for whether to continue maintaining the patents.
