Coretronic Wins 13th Consecutive "CommonWealth CSR Award" and First "Talent Sustainability Award"

The “CommonWealth Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award”, a notable Taiwan sustainable benchmark award that CommonWealth Magazine has hosted for 18 years, released its 2024 winner list. Amid fierce competition from over 200 companies, Coretronic was ranked 11th in the manufacturing sector for the large enterprise category, and 22nd in the overall large enterprise category. The Company has advanced 5 places for 2 consecutive years, earning a spot on the “CommonWealth Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award” list for the 13th consecutive year. Moreover, it is awarded with “CommonWealth Talent Sustainability Award” for the first time. These achievements highlight Coretronic’s continuous effort in driving sustainability transformation and its success in embedding ESG principles into daily operations.

In terms of corporate governance, Coretronic actively enhances the information quality and transparency, strengthens internal governance mechanisms, and promotes board diversity. The current Board of Directors (BoD) consists of 7 board members, including 1 female director. The board diversity is reflected in their age, professional background, expertise, and industry experience. In addition, the Company commissions an external independent institution to conduct a board performance evaluation every three years and conducts internal evaluations annually on the performance of the BoD, its individual board members, and each functional committee. Furthermore, the ESG Committee, chaired by the Chairman, has the Chief Financial Officer serve as the executive representative and committee member, providing an annual report to the Board of Directors on the Company’s sustainability development and quarterly updates on the execution of greenhouse gas inventory. The committee also submits annual material topics and the sustainability report to the Board of Directors for approval, thereby continuously reinforcing the Board’s role and accountability in sustainability governance.

In terms of corporate commitment, Coretronic is dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. In addition to providing diverse online and in-person learning resources, the Company supports employees in planning their individual development roadmaps, promotes youth empowerment programs, and organizes seminars on industry trends, entrepreneurship, and team leadership to strengthen the strategic vision, industry analysis, and leadership capabilities of middle managers and senior executives. Furthermore, the Company has established multiple communication channels to listen to employees’ voices, encourage innovative ideas, and foster a sustainable learning environment together with employees. At the same time, the Company offers flexible working hours, fully-paid Golden Vacation Week exceeding legal requirements, fully-paid volunteer leave, flexible leave for new employees, and annual health checkups, as well as electrocardiogram examinations for all employees aged 45 and above and those with stage 2 hypertension, thereby building a healthy and work-life balance workplace. In addition, the Company has launched the “Corporate Academy Protect-Three-Generation” in collaboration with Yuan Ze University to provide customized courses and semester internship opportunities for students. Under the joint guidance of corporate executives and senior employees, students can cultivate industry knowledge and workplace skills, strengthening talent development and achieving a win–win outcome for both academia and industry.

In terms of social engagement, Coretronic collaborates with its stakeholders, the Firefly Volunteer Team, social enterprises, NPO, local universities, customers, and suppliers to jointly implement five major public welfare programs—“Light Wishes for the Rurals”, “Light Pioneer”, “Love Followers”, “Dream Walkers”, and “Elderly Smile”. The Company strives to leverage its core expertise to solve existing social challenges. To bridge the digital and resource gap between urban and rural areas, Coretronic continues to partner with students from the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and Papacode to host “Future Light Camp 2.0”. This 6-day programming camp is designed for fourth to sixth graders in rural and suburban elementary schools in Miaoli County. It not only enables children to finish the 7th-grade through the first semester of 8th-grade programming curriculum ahead of time, but also allows them to collaborate with teammates to complete two game programs. Moreover, in response to the growing caregiving need for solitary elderly in Taiwan’s aged society, Coretronic addresses seniors’ needs in supplies, nutrition, and healthcare by initiating three “Elderly Smile” programs—“Warm Delivery”, “Warm Telehealth”, and “Warm Restaurant”. Through partnerships with multiple social enterprises and NPOs, the Company actively tackles the challenges faced by solitary elderly, leverages technology to narrow the healthcare resource gap in rural areas, and strengthens staffing and resource at welfare institutions. Through these efforts, the Company aims to ensure their physical and mental well-being of seniors, support them in enjoying a healthy life, and realize the vision of aging in place.

In terms of environmental sustainability, Coretronic announced its “Net Zero Commitment” in 2022, committing to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, and setting emission reduction targets based on the SBT 1.5℃ scenario—“Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50.4% by 2032 from a 2021 base year, and reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 30% within the same timeframe”, which were approved by SBTi in 2024. In addition, the Company has published “Annual TCFD (Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures) Report” for two years, and responded to the CDP questionnaire for 5 consecutive years. In 2023, it received the highest rating of A (Leadership Level) in the Supplier Engagement Rating, and B (Management Level) ratings in both Climate Change and Water Security questionnaires. Meanwhile, the Company has joined the “Taiwan Climate Partnership” and the “Taiwan Alliance for Net Zero Emission”, collaborating with supply chain partners to strengthen organizational climate resilience. In terms of carbon reduction practices, the Company continues to install the solar power generation systems, and procure renewable energy through green power wheeling and renewable energy certificates, thereby effectively increasing the renewable energy usage rate. At the same time, it has established a Product Carbon Footprint Inventory Platform to identify carbon hotspots across its products, while increasing the use of recycled raw materials and implementing sustainable supply chain management. These efforts collectively reduce product carbon footprints and resource consumption, fully demonstrating the Company’s commitment and achievements in fulfilling its climate pledges.

In the future, Coretronic will continue to strengthen communication and collaboration across the value chain to create long-term, mutually beneficial impacts. Together, the Company aspires to foster more net positive impacts, interactions, and developments for the environment, society, and humanity.

About the CommonWealth Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award
In 2024, CommonWealth Magazine invited Taiwanese companies who were profitable for at least two years between 2021 and 2023 to participate in the Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award. By referencing indicators and assessment methodologies used in relevant global awards, this award assesses companies based on their performance in four aspects: corporate governance, corporate commitment, social engagement, and environmental sustainability to identify the companies with the best sustainability performance in Taiwan. In previous years, the award provided an overall top 50 list of companies across different sectors, but this year companies in the manufacturing, service, and financing sectors are ranked separately to better account for the unique characteristics of each sector.
